Following the opening ceremony for the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, President Moon Jae-in attended the ASEAN Business & Investment Summit, which was held at the Solaire Hotel in Manila at 2:00 this afternoon.
In his address to the ASEAN Business Advisory Council and attending business leaders, President Moon congratulated ASEAN on the 50th anniversary of its founding and highlighted historical and cultural similarities between Korea and ASEAN member states.
President Moon reiterated his New Southern Policy, aiming to elevate Korean cooperation with ASEAN countries to the level with the four major powers involved in issues regarding the Korean Peninsula.
Importantly, President Moon envisaged a future Korea-ASEAN community characterized by “the three Ps.” This refers to a community of “People”; “Peace,” contributing to Asian peace through security cooperation; and “Prosperity,” in which all parties benefit from reciprocal economic cooperation. He emphasized that Korea and ASEAN should work together toward this goal.
The President’s ideas to expand cooperation and funds toward ASEAN received an enthusiastic round of applause from the participants.
